The gravel worked its way under my skin
New black marbles under my flesh
Leaving bloody handprints on the ground
Heaving myself up

And I walked on

I fell again the next day
The cement pushed past my finger tips
And ripped away my fingerprints
A reminder for next time
Lifting myself up

And I walked on

Funny how we never learn after the first fall
We make the same mistakes
Day in and day out
In circles we tread
Working our way underground

And I walked on

Today I fell
The gravel worked its way under my skin
New black marbles under my flesh
Leaving bloody handprints on the ground
Heaving myself up

And I walked on

I fell again the next day
The cement pushed past my finger tips
And ripped away my fingerprints
A reminder for next time
Lifting myself up

And I walked on

Funny how we never learn after the first fall
We make the same mistakes
Day in and day out
In circles we tread
Working our way underground

And I walked on
