The Man Who Smells Of Dog

The man who smells like dog
Ain’t got nothing to do today
So he’s just gonna sit and think today
About all the sweet little dirty ways
His time on this one slipped away
Fingernail dirt and a stained tee-shirt
Are just the surface of the ways he hurt
The man who smells like a big wet dog
Ain’t got nothing on his broke plate right now
He’s just gonna sit and watch a little TV right now
Anyhow, he’s just one more tiny speck
In the mass vacancy of not mattering
A beat up truck, so out of luck
Down trodden to the point of not even giving
A good swear word
Today is the day he sleeps till noon
Today is the day without the perfume
Of a sweet young thang to kindly explain
Why his days always seem to pass
Quietly and free of refrain
And maybe a tear will interfere
With his day to day notions of what a man really is
And in this moment he will see clear
The error of living life under the air
Below the surface, always in fear
Beneath the radar
His life and his Sunday are drawing to an end
And once more like before
He’ll pretend
This is what he wants
So with heavy head he’ll head off to bed
And squeeze a bad sleep whilst counting
Not sheep
But the numbers of years
He’s let slip away
Into the hairs turned grey
Always man of the land
A man for his hands
Unsatisfied with this life that he tried
As he writhes off the sleep
The brain goes into a sepia haze
The man who smells like dog is done with his day
