Hindrance to Hope

Tempted once and fell all the way down,
Tripped on rocks as you looked around.
One ride down the slippery slope,
And you’ve forgotten the meaning of hope.

Took the threat to your own being,
Looking down toward forever instead of seeing.
Wrote notes, words of goodbyes,
But had nothing to say when you survived the night.

Can’t get back up, don’t have the strength,
Burned the currency of climbing up rank.
Façade of better, faking it well,
Building back up your beautiful shell.

Attempt number two burned love through,
Didn’t matter, because you never knew.
Forgot how to play the game,
Drowned life in a well of shame.

Tears stopping falling when faith in you fell,
Even your source of pain took the attempt well.
But the last time wouldn’t be so true,
You forgot about how many of us would miss you.
