Winter and her departure

A twilight following the first snow in days, casts soft unstable wings falling from the tops of trees into the endless grip of dreams and promises, swept up by the crystalline breeze of the winter and her departure.
The heart beats, the breath settles down to sleep, the dreams rise and wait for tears to take their place, and satisfy—with articulate fingers restful and in peace—the dawning of a new dream.
No dreams come, and the winter’s cold ephemeral snow slips from fall to find the spring, and springs to find the summer plains golden and forever.
