What is Love?

And what is love? A fragile thing?
A feeling that all is at ease?
A spider’s web above a stream
That flutters in the slightest breeze?
But what is love? I dare to ask
Is it more fleeting than should be?
And how can it escape the past?
And face it’s final destiny?
Am I a fool to love this way?
Enthralled by such a tender kiss?
And awaken with the dawning day
And pray to God it’s not amiss?
My soul wanders in the night
Knowing not which way to turn
Hopelessness is brought to light
The dawn that makes the eyes to burn
My heart is brought down to the ground,
Swift as with the foeman’s sword
My lips have fallen silent now
No longer can I speak a word
Awake O heart and beat again
And know that still she loves you so
Let hope rise up with no refrain
Without her love, where would you go?
Where to turn but to her arms?
The safest place for me to be
Reclining only in her charms
And know that it’s my destiny
So what is love? I finally know
A trust I muster from inside
That waters it and makes it grow
And dares not seek to run or hide
