You wooed me----
Making me believe you cared for me,
When, in fact, I see I was merely fodder;
I the mouse to your cat.
Oh! To turn back the hands of time!----I would---
For then, perhaps, I could prevent our meeting?
No---I think not.
Certain things are inevitable
(Like heartbreak).
Yes, you wooed me,
Then you left me to rot,
Wondering why I wasn’t good enough;
Wishing I was someone else who could make you stay.
What a silly woman was I?
To think you’d sooner die than hurt me?
Ha!------Yes, I was foolish------
And foolish still it seems
For I continue to weep for the loss of you.
Absurd, I know, but I cannot control my feelings---
They work against me,
Plotting my demise via love’s labor’s lost.
Oh, God!----
Again, here I am, loving you,
Even after you used me----
Discarding my love like so much useless trash;
Oh!----I must think myself worthless to care----
And care I do for you!---Despite how insane it is to.
And do you know what’s stranger still?
All the while I am loving you,
I am wishing to hate you as much as myself-----
Ah! But that-----That is impossible to do;
For it was I that let you woo
And believed you were true
When, really, I meant nothing to you---
So this is my shame to carry.
The shame is:
I believed in the lie that was you and I,
And ignored what the brain knew despite the heart----
That you can only love yourself and no one else
Especially a girl like me,
Who lives to love
And loves to live----
To me you cannot give,
For that would be most costly;
It would mean to put yourself second,
And no one is second to you----
And did I mention?
I continue to miss you---
So, they were right,
Truth is stranger than fiction.
