You were my first true love and I tried so hard you see
To make you realize the love that came from me
I held you close even when pushed away
I came over even though you didn't want me to stay
I stayed optimistic in hopes your eyes would see
never thinking that you want me to just leave you be
This love I bare is in my soul to stay
I'll never try this hard to show my love
Too scared they'll push me away

I can't make you love me
Though I really thought I could
These words you say hurt
Maybe they're just misunderstood?

You say it wouldn't work between the two of us
but we get along fine
is it because of lust?
There has to be a better reason why
you'd want to make me cry
There has to be a better reason why
You'd go this far to lie

I can't make you love me
Though I tried so hard I know
it's time for me to say goodbye
and let these feelings go . . . . .
