lending loungers a relieving, helping hand.

Meanwhile propped umbrellas mark the beach,
like thumbtacks scattered on a map,
laced with blankets and trailed by shovels and pails.

As a single feather floats,
unphased, above the empty faces,
its frayed, wavering trail leads and catches in the sails. The summer breeze breathes painfully hot,
