it caught up with me yesterday:
everything I miss
smells and sounds, remembered bliss;
my favourite foods and local beer
I yearn for it, now it’s not here

my friends and family:
who would guess?
without them everything’s a mess;
an aching deep within my heart
the longer we’re so far apart

things are not the same:
so distant, I don’t feel whole
this melancholy of the soul;
for so long I yearned to roam
now I can’t wait to go back home.
