I shouldn/'/t have to
But I do
Because I know
That you will never acknowledge
the mistakes you make
The wrongs you do
One after another
Destroying everybody around you
Tumbling like an intricate domino setup
Sometimes
More like every second of every day
I wish you weren/'/t such a coward
I wish you would act like an adult
And for once
Listen to those who deserve to be listened to.
My mother
She is a beautiful woman
With a strong voice
And the way you dismiss her words
It makes me hate you a little
Why can/'/t you just listen?
Does it have to go
To the length of me
Your daughter
A "child"
To call you out?
Or will you just dismiss this too?
That/'/s not a question
I know you will
Because that/'/s who you are.
Sometimes I start to think
That you/'/re becoming this
New person
A good person
And then
You prove me wrong
Yet again.
It/'/s a funny cycle
It really is.
You fail your first kid and
Never even talk to them
About the mistakes you made
With her that destroyed her life.
You get a second chance
And start failing that child too
So you have another one.
Change will only happen
When you pick your ass up
And make a /*****/ effort
And I wish I was brave enough
To say that to you
In person
Without the fear
That you will lash out at me
Like you used to
When I was young
And weak.
You know
The things you keep hush hush
Cause even after all these years
You can/'/t apologize for destroying my life
You coward
The only reason I still hate myself
Is because I love you
And I know.
I know that you won/'/t turn into
This great person I want you to be
I know you won/'/t start listening
To the world around you.
I/'/m not gonna keep apologizing
For you
Daddy.
