I said goodbye
She did not smile
bewildered
No this isn/'/t it
My friend so dear with promised harbor
I travel upon my own lonely path
sailed the sea unforgiven
and restless.

So it was I wandered...
As the young
and the fools often do
Into the sunlit smile
a mirage of golden promise
Just over the horizon.

I/'/ll find it
So I/'/ve thought
That great mystery
That great answer into the arms
of "ever-after"
Yes...
just over the horizon.

How many sunsets alone?
Can I even count the harbors
where my bow has lain?
Yes the docks so sultry sweet
though nets lay often empty
or the occasional few
laden with the flotsam cans of refuse.
which refuse to be filled differently.

Oh but those few...
were nearly the end of me
Dragged down by the rode
It was within their nets I learned
Even the most lovely of isles
Can have gleaming hearts of treachery
beneath their golden sands.

Ah...
to recognize the roundness of the earth
I see... I/'/ve sailed these waters before
Even if in memory
recalling the surge of her tides upon me
left within my wake.

Yes...
I should have dropped anchor
set the rode.
Within these waters
I should have loved
yet...
always have
Currents laden with pain...
and regret
moored in the ebbing tide of memory
realizing...
I never should have said goodbye.

Ebbing Tide of Memory

I said goodbye
She did not smile
bewildered
No this isn/'/t it
My friend so dear with promised harbor
I travel upon my own lonely path
sailed the sea unforgiven
and restless.

So it was I wandered...
As the young
and the fools often do
Into the sunlit smile
a mirage of golden promise
Just over the horizon.

I/'/ll find it
So I/'/ve thought
That great mystery
That great answer into the arms
of "ever-after"
Yes...
just over the horizon.

How many sunsets alone?
Can I even count the harbors
where my bow has lain?
Yes the docks so sultry sweet
though nets lay often empty
or the occasional few
laden with the flotsam cans of refuse.
which refuse to be filled differently.

Oh but those few...
were nearly the end of me
Dragged down by the rode
It was within their nets I learned
Even the most lovely of isles
Can have gleaming hearts of treachery
beneath their golden sands.

Ah...
to recognize the roundness of the earth
I see... I/'/ve sailed these waters before
Even if in memory
recalling the surge of her tides upon me
left within my wake.

Yes...
I should have dropped anchor
set the rode.
Within these waters
I should have loved
yet...
always have
Currents laden with pain...
and regret
moored in the ebbing tide of memory
realizing...
I never should have said goodbye.
