So many Stairs To Heaven

Walking up those stairs
out of breathe and stopping for another break
Walking down the stairs
were many wounded for God sake
This morning I had a good breakfast
then I kissed the wife and kids good bye
I left the house early that morning
not knowing it was my time to die
The smoke getting thicker
every step higher it gets harder to breathe any air
Danger is calling us today
to save any lives that may be trapped there
To panic is no option
must be brave and face the fight
So many people in this building today
something is just not right
The rumbling sound begins
like an earthquake has begun
I see the light of the heavens now
much brighter than the sun
Walking up the stairs to heaven
there was no turning around
We all said our prayers
amidst that last rumbling sound
My shield and number may be found
please bury me with dignity and pride
I will be here by Gods side watching you
and also be standing by your side
Please don’t forget us
we did not know it was our time to die
We had no control over leaving you
I know you have so many questions why
Just know our hands are touching you
as we watch over you each and every day
Just know we hear you
each and every time you have something you want to say
To all our wives and children
you understood our love for our job and you
Just know we will always be by your side
when you’re thinking of us, as you always do
