(Youth doesn’t know that it is defying;
Knots that will take a lifetime untying).

Children own nothing, so what is their worth?
Are they mere expectations we launched at their birth?

Given the gift of an unwritten slate;
To write what they wish, before it’s too late.
They all speak their minds, unfettered and free;
Cloaked in convictions of how things should be.

Beneath their bravado a child lies uncertain;
Powerless, hiding behind ego’s curtain!

Youth owes to no one! And no one owes you!
No debts (and no leverage to make dreams come true).
Only when laden with trade-offs and barters;
Can you negotiate uncharted waters!

Absent of scars from the marks of life’s battles;
Beauty is all youth can offer as chattel.
Yet somehow it senses that beauty will fade;
And chooses sides quickly before the charade;
Of eternal perfection begins to degrade.

Absent of failures, how can it know;
What it should choose, without waiting to grow!
(And waiting leaves terrible etchings that show!)

Given a choice , would you rather stay;
Here with your wisdom in tattle tale grey?
Or take back your youth and lose all you know;
Hoping to reap so much more than you sow?

Considering that life is a series of chances;
I would not trust that the same circumstances;
Might offer options unnoticed before;
(As luck would have it, I’d choose the same doors!)

So let me ask ,would you take your youth back?
On the chance that you might not come out in the black?

Yes – for the one with no doubts of improving;
No – to the one with too much to risk losing;
Perhaps life is wiser than most of us think;
To have written our fates in indelible ink!
