This cloistered world of merry dancing fires,
all a crackling sham,
my table pen, paper, thoughts;
these bricks of air
I travel not beyond,
cloistered as I am.

Those tainted places I daren/'/t go,
for what I’ll see and being seen,
these chains my pride has wrapped me in;
I thought me kind but find I’m mean.

Not the schoolyard bully type
or the racist beast that barks,
I’ve the meanness of a petty mind
in my comfy cloistered park.

I eat what I want,
no thought to where, the cost or when.
I see the tracks, the neon glows
where souls go to end.
But my cloistered soul I’ve come to loathe
disallows my having friends.
