After all having a lead role boosted my spirits
And it was an honor to lift the spirits of those watching all around
Not to mention the Director/'/s reminder that He was pleased in my work

Then came the day when an extra appeared with a speaking part
I was amazed at the eloquence and sincerity with which his role was portrayed
Still fulfilling my own I made the effort to observe his ways

I was grateful for down time when we could discuss the Script
The one we both knew so well to my amazement
I inquired of the novice/'/s secret
And his response was simplistic yet powerful

The key is a sincere heart and focused mind
The Director knows what He/'/s doing
The wise novice admonished me
I begged his pardon with a furrowed brow

He assured me that his correction was meant to further me
As an actress in this divine play
The one in which the applause is of no importance
And where the actor/'/s eyes belong only on the Director

We both knew he had hit a weak spot in my soul
I openly admitted where my eyes were for so long
He placed a hand on my shoulder and told me that it was alright

Now it/'/s time for you to refocus, he challenged me
Just keep your gaze directed toward Jesus
That way others will see Him through you
And don/'/t get fixated on those that enter and exit the stage
After all we/'/ll greet each other again at the Curtain Call
Ready to take our place on a Heavenly Stage with God being both Director and audience of One
