[hometext] => My first post in too long - Back to storytelling again, perhaps in the vein of the Magnificent Seven ?
[bodytext] => Dust smoked the horizon, hooves echoed across the plain
Light crept inward as sun dipped into mountain tips
Ghost voices embellished the dark
Crawling from deep burrows into the embers of the day
As one by one, heavy wooden shutters rattled into place
Th 4 horse slowed, falling into view
Wordless but uniform to the clink of bridle
Those that waited melted into doorways
Whisky spit in darkening ground, each claimed his shadow
Faces washed of everything but hatred and greed
Night drew the canvas, black and motionless
As dry air chilled to the faintest of stars
Time froze as each side surveyed
Unseen faces loaded and locked
While the 4 horse dismounted, stepped forward in line
Judgement dark steel, the giver of hope, the taker of life
Impartial witness now waited to be called
A faint glint of gun barrel, high on the parapet
The first shot ricocheted
Splitting the sky
For some death was kind, swift and decisive
For others it lingered, strangled and choked
Those stowed in houses
Crouching in silence
Prayed for salvation, awaited the end
Bullets, blood and butchery, painted the scene
Screams of the dying, haunted the dark
Now only they remained, Saviours unknown
4 horsemen, heads bowed, offered up a prayer
And ended tyranny in a sleepy western town
