Its veins, a sun-dyed red:
A golden fringe, receding slowly
Beyond the blackened edge.

The colors gold, and red, and blue
All throbbing, in the clouds;
Until the final wisps of dusk
Give way to darker shrouds.

And there it stands, in reddened hues:
My walkway to the light.
If I could just but take a step,
I’d never face the night.

And then a peek of gold on blue
(As blue as sapphire sky),
The topaz dances bright, anew
Before the last goodbye:

With water lapping at my heels
And sand between my toes,
My heartbeat waltzing with the waves:

That’s how a sunset goes.

My heart was in the sky tonight.

Its veins, a sun-dyed red:
A golden fringe, receding slowly
Beyond the blackened edge.

The colors gold, and red, and blue
All throbbing, in the clouds;
Until the final wisps of dusk
Give way to darker shrouds.

And there it stands, in reddened hues:
My walkway to the light.
If I could just but take a step,
I’d never face the night.

And then a peek of gold on blue
(As blue as sapphire sky),
The topaz dances bright, anew
Before the last goodbye:

With water lapping at my heels
And sand between my toes,
My heartbeat waltzing with the waves:

That’s how a sunset goes.
