Anthem For The New Day

With the break of each new day
We mould our lives like bricks of clay
And to thine own self be true
In every miniscule thing you do
As you forge a destiny anew
And once again launch yourself into the fray.

As bitter night turns into dawn
Let your melancholy thoughts be gone
Let this day be a new start
Rise up and mend your broken heart
Let not your life be torn apart
By thoughts of things gone wrong.

Go and find the less-trodden route
Meet the challenge-let your spirit shout
Do not waste time wondering why
Past romances went awry
As you count the tears you cry
O’er flames that have long since gone out.

And should you ever find yourself retreating
Call to mind that life is fleeting
It shall be over in a flash
And you will wonder, once its past
Just how the years went by so fast
As to death’s sickle you are conceding.

For death shall come to us all; tis’ unforgiving
The gravedigger shall continue digging
Make it so that when he digs your grave
He will see your tombstone is engraved
With the many accomplishments of your days
And that you spent each minute of life living.

So each day we rise, with breath a' fleeting
Locked in combat, self defeating
We must learn to shrug off the pain
Raise up our sword and swing again
For if we dare give up the fight
If we dare take our eyes from the light
Then we surrender ourselves to perpetual night
And by our despair we shall be slain.

Let not your descendents, when they their lineage trace
Be by this most terrible fact faced:
That your days amounted to naught
That you never even thought
About the status quo in which you were caught
And that all your life was just a waste.

So let us strive to leave our mark
Upon this Earth, so cold and dark
Let us not fade quietly or wilt
Let us grab life firmly by its hilt
And leave deep footprints in the sands of time
So our descendents, far down the line
May build a wondrous city that scrapes the sky
Upon the foundation that we have built.
