When I Was Small

When I Was Small
Thinking about when I was small,
Back to a time when I thought I knew it all.
Strong willed, stubborn, and naive,
No one could change what I believed.
My father would try to teach me right,
But all I wanted to do was fight.
My mother tried to steer me clear,
From all the bad things she knew were near.
Never did I give them the credit they deserved,
Though many times their voice I heard.
Reminding me to choose the path less traveled,
To keep my life from becoming totally unraveled.
Now I look back with a tear in my eye,
At how fast those years have passed me by.
I had struggles, but I turned out all right,
Thanks to my parents constant fight.
Thanks mom and dad for never giving up on me,
Even when times I refused to see.
Your influence has turned my life around,
Happiness and peace of mind is what I have found.
