WHAT IF...

Watching the sea water
Turn into a curling wave
Thinking of how, on my heart,
You did engrave
A message like the sound
Of a distant seagull
Dreaming of it
And the beautiful image turns
Somewhat painful,
Fading, drifting, rolling like
The swell of the tide,
My soul, it searches
For the question in your stare,
So blue-eyed,
The lull of the waves
And it's gentle rocking motion,
Brings a smile to my lips
With a tear as the emotion,
Takes over my mind,
Souring off an imaginary cliff,
As I ask myself again and again
That question of "what if"?
