mask

Contributed By: me

of all the things I just won’t need
this is yet another
this mask
painted with a grin
and a tear falling from the hollow eye
I made it when I was twelve
it’s in a box with many others
in storage
behind a bright orange door and a heavy lock
it’s pink with red circles on the cheeks
and blonde curls around the plaster face
what did it hide back then?
my face
it was a child’s face
more round and rosy
a different person than today
but I already had secrets
I already had hopes
already a sackfull of fears
shoved, hidden under the bed
along with all the other monsters
here I am today
where?
another place
another life
yet another beginning
needing my mask again
because I’m feeling weary
of the constant change
and my mask is still the same
and it still fits
