Rid Myself of You

You.
How can that little word,
Bring forth so much, so fast?
It lurches me right back,
To you, to me, to us, to the past.
Of all the people that I have known,
I wonder how my mind sets you apart,
So that the one word I hate to hear,
Insantly means you?
You.
It's curious that a single word,
So simple and overused,
Can flash me pictures, memories,
So happy then they bring pain now.
Wow.
It's been so long,
There have been more,
To take the place, to fill the space,
To be the 'you' I should know.
But when it is said,
Guess who I saw?
I instantly think...You.
So how do I make it to be,
That instead I think of me?
Or her? Or him? Anyone except...
I won't say it,
I refuse.
I don't know what to do,
I need to find a way,
To rid myself of...
You.
