Their New Dance

With some hesitation to the dance she did go
A curious glowing cherubic face
Eyes hauntingly aglow
Under the cover darkness
Draped in rose petal softness
She sweeps the floor parting the sea
Until she broke against a paradise shore,
Thrown into a warm embrace.
Caught by surprise, so unexpectedly.
He looks down at what he had found,
What butterfly is this in my net?
One that I cannot bare to set free
Unlike those that now flutter inside me
His skin glistened with perspiration
His hand fell over her shoulder,
Smooth marble to his touch as it fell down her arm
She scanned this face
Eyes shrouded by the dimness still soft and endless
Black tendrils wet fell over as a curtain half raised over a stage
Calling for her to take a peak, to see if for her there is a role to play.
The slightest tremble in her skin
As she boldly reaches hold of him
And as if marionettes with no mind or control
The descend onto the dance floor
Destination unknown.
Time does not exist
Nothing but dance, step after step.
Hesitation becomes acceptation
Uncertainty replaced with confidence.
The music fades
Time finds them, whisking them apart,
One last song to seal the night,
His warm body and sweet sweaty smell lingers
His new welcome touch
Her desire to know him through and through
All drive this nervous churning pit in her stomach
Her slick skin and whirlwind of hair
Her delicacy and strength
Her eyes, her brilliant hypnotic eyes!
This brilliant butterfly
A few precious moments and she may be lost
The song begins and they all close their eyes
The last song to seal the night
“ I don’t know this song,” he whispers,
“I don’t know this dance,
But I know exactly how I feel about you
Time is running out please….”
The fear in his voice the dread in his eyes
He can’t lose her tonight!
A smile so soft and smooth like a petal was taken
From a soft pink rose and spread across her face
A hint of amusement in her eyes
She holds up her finger to his trembling lip
“ Amor vincit omnia, time makes no difference here.”
The words tumble out as though from a songbird.
He is mesmerized by this sound.
As she guides him sweet laughter rings in his ears
His tense stiff body melts into their motions
His laugh a harmony to hers.
Her reassuring eyes, those wise old eyes,
“Stop thinking about tomorrow,
Life’s a dance you learn as you go.”
