I Had Always Loved Your Empty Eyes

The footprints in the snow,
Lead me to the place,
Beneath the vast skies,
Where we used to rest,
Beyond it will lie infinitely
The peaceful nights that we knew best;
I’ve stopped unbounded time to search for you,
But as lost as my memories of then is
Your hazy gaze and vacant face,
Reflections of your crooked smile
And piercing gray,
Touch my tears in the same spiteful way
You used to say
“I’m broken in this awful habit, but I live for this”
And I can’t erase your words from my brain,
My ears crave to hear you speak again;
As I roam these empty streets,
I search for you frantically, foolishly,
To resurrect what can never be,
I will never find who I used to be;
A mirror shattered before me
As I stood crying,
Is there a cure for our self-inflicted disease?
Search with me for who we used to be.
