we thought we were invincible
but now the end is at our door
we laughed at the thought
we harangued
“live and let live”
and now we have two options
should we fight?
when all the president’s men
have faded from our sight?
or sit back and watch the view
a sentimental still made for two
watch the bright lights in the sky
accept this fate while
hydrogen bombs fly by
the mushroom clouds
are not much for romance
well, at least we tasted love
we remark in effort for our serenity
as the radiation softly embraces our skin
will it hurt less if we just give in?
we'd be naive to say we could outlast this
so hold me close and let us kiss
our future away
while we complain it isn’t fair
but we always knew we couldn’t last it
only cockroaches and cher
