Nothing But A Dream

You are nothing but a dream.
A nightmare perhaps?
I think not.
In my mind's eye you were perfect...
No flaw to be found:
Perfection of man in my dream.
You never hurt, you never lied,
Never abused my heart.
In my dream, we made love,
You held me tight,
You touched me like I was all that mattered.
You told me that you would never leave me.
In my dream, I trusted you.
With your arms around me,
Nothing outside of our bed could touch us.
Nothing could get in.
But mostly:
Our feelings for each other could not get out.
In my dream, you were a prince.
I felt like Cinderella and a mysterious,
Handsome prince came to free me
From the locked room I built in my heart.
When you touched me, in my dream,
The entire world vanished.
When I awoke from my slumber,
And passed through the door between reverie and life,
My prince whom I put all of my trust in,
Turned into a frog,
The world reappeared,
And his arms disintegrated into two clouds of nothingness.
Now, broken promises ravage my spirit,
And my heart aches.
I pray for God to let me return to my sleep,
But to no victory over the ails of consciousness,
I leave my heart in my dream
To hope and pray that drowsiness comes quickly,
That I may return to my dream,
And find perfection once again.
For in my dream is the only place you truly exist.
