The tone of your words ring in my ear
Repeated phrases still I hear
"You're ready," you say
As I begin to hug you
"You're ready," I think
As my heart continues to love you
For years, I have ached to hear these words
For months, I've bit down and fought my urge
For days, I try to compose myself
For hours, I try to control myself
For minutes, I look into your eyes
Four seconds
Too late
and to my surprise
You kiss me.
You're ready
for the journey that lies.
