It's like I was just hatched,
this learning to live without you.
Day breaks like I've never seen before.
Bright reds paint the sky like Michelangelo,
who's masterpiece I've never noticed until now.
Was the sun always this bright, this warm,
this radiant on my skin as the day begins.

I'm learning to live on my own again.
Dishes were never so dirty.
Apatheticly lounging in the sink,
taunting me to give them their weekly baths.
Food hides it's flavor from me,
a silent punishment for what I did.
Or didn't do depending on your view.

The sun seems brighter, but days seem longer.
And nights. I don't like to think about nights.
I'm learning not to sleep.
I don't need to dream, to see a better place
than where I am resting my head.
To wake to this could shock my system
like a million of your kisses used to.

I am learning.
I am learning to joke about the past.
Together we were like the earth and water,
a tumultous, unhappy, bored mud.
But I've learned from that.
Each bright day will bleed into cold lonely night
to the next day and with that I'm all right.
Because with each passing day,
I am learning to live without you.
