Street Ghost
The blame game spins the wheel and I am cast as perpetrator of my own predicament
Society turns the blind eye to the street ghost that I have become
Nameless castaway, floating in a sea of despair
The invisible army, recruited unwilling, to trudge dark alleys paved with sorrow
The winter snow stings the eyes that see all colours
But focus only on the black and white of cruel existence
My zest for life ransacked, tattered as the faded coat
That gives scarce comfort from the ill wind which hollowed out my will
Each day not a blessing but further descent into the abyss of broken dreams
Hope gouged from the soul, last remnants scraped away with the blunt knife of realism
Lost amidst a sea of empty faces, meandering like crazed monk among the catacombs
Should I pass to shadow, the epitaph would not grace your disinterested gaze
I am the modern day leper you so vehemently seek to avoid
The look in your eyes yells beggar, thief, madman, fool
The look in mine says see the truth, I am human too
