Black Valentine
I don’t understand how love turns to sand; How promises bind like twine;
Who could drown in her eyes, her buttery sighs:
My manevolent black valentine.
Too soon I discovered she gave to another; All she had pledged was mine;
The same words and story she first set before me;
Repeated line for line.
And he sat before her to dine;
In the web of a black valentine
He thought he could keep her, and so I released her; Surrendered what never was mine.
The faint scent of rose; the dreams that wont close; the sheets where we once lay entwined;
Are all I have left;
The rest has been swept across the abyss of time.
To die in the throws of the longing that grows;
To be with my black valentine.
