Ready to make that fateful leap
From childhood into womanhood.
Nothing can stop her but herself.
She is poised to jump but
Something inside her can't yet.
She stands waiting for someone
to grant her her wings,
to tell her to jump.
Little does she know,
It takes a leap of faith
To earn those wings.
Time passes and one day,
She will decide to jump
One day she will be ready, to fall or fly.
Prepared to fall yet hoping to fly.
She will leave all her world behind
With one promising leap.
Better to fall and know flight,
Even for just a second,
Than to standing waiting and wondering
What it would be like to fly.
That day has come.
With one last glance behind
She looks ahead to the open sky,

She stands on the edge of reality
Ready to make that fateful leap

She is poised to jump but

She stands waiting for someone
to grant her her wings,
to tell her to jump.

Majestic, beautiful, encompassing, gorgeous and lots of other words come to mind.

It reminds me in an off hand sort of way of the lyrics---

"She remembers when
She first got her wings
And how they opened up
The day she learned to sing.."

I am most and thoroughly impressed and incredibly excited to have been given the chance to read it.

The theme of luck and chance in this poem is well written. The metaphors of flying and falling attatched to the transition between being a girl and becoming a woman are wonderfully realistic in the sense that some 'fly' or rather, make it through this time. Where as others 'fall' or give themselves up to today's more riske part of society. An excellent write.
