He loves her so much and its all that she knows
A constant attention that ebbs and then flows
It hurts her so much but its just his wild ways
So she treasures the bruises like others hold days.

He hits hard with his fists, sharp vicious blows
But he loves her so much and its all that she knows
So she embraces his anger, despite all the pain
Rising to beatings again and again.

It’s the drink he says, apology implied
Then the rage is back, and she knows that he lied
But he loves her so much and its all that she knows
The punches, the kicks, the life that fate chose.

Soon there’ll be darkness, she knows it’s the truth
Another split lip, another loose tooth
The wailing of children amidst all her woes
But he loves her so much and its all that she knows. [comments] => 5 [counter] => 192 [topic] => 39 [informant] => spike [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 50 [ratings] => 10 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Grief )

How true. Many women are badly beaten in the name of love and even some men it is a vivid sad picture that you write in your poem It is not love but possiveness that causes the trouble, She is mine. He is mine. There is no more giving just a taking and of course alcohol is just another excuse. There is no excuse for hitting your partner. I am a married man that is going on for his golden wedding in a few months neither my lovely wife or I have ever felt the need for agressiveness. We have had our share of ups and downs and we have always after a tiff kissed and made up. To say one is sorry and to mean it is that what makes a good marriage. Sorry to have rambled on but this poem of yours hit me hard. There is too much violence in this world of ours. It must stop, bernard2

So so so true spike, luckly I havent been subjected to physical abuse but I know me share of emotional n sexual abuse. And its no pleasure. I know what it means to be in such a similar situation and how hard it is to get out of it. It took me 4 years to tell me husband I wont take no more and that he had to leave. Luckly he did..... I am now left on me own and me two young children he had left behind. He has moved back to the US and making his own life. I will fear for the new spouse he might have in the future as I know the torment she'll go thru. Such things as these will scar anyone for life.

Great write spike, such things need to be highlighted more often to make us aware these things are happening daily and so many people die of domestic violence.

Huggsss,

Nats.

Bruises of Love... an interesting title for an interesting poem. I realy liked the way you put that one line in every stanza, moving it down. Awesome.
Take care.

Again, you have touched my heart spike. This is unlike
the others though, in that I am all too familiar with the
subject... Heartwrenching, to say the VERY least at
what some women feel they must or worse yet, NEED
to suffer through. I never understood it as a child
witness to it, and I still have not the sufficient grasp
of why women stay with men who hit. ESPECIALLY
when their children eventually subcumb to the same
torture. I would slit my own wrists before I'd see a
child of mine harmed in any way.
sorry to go on.....this poem touched me as well. Bernard is right.
There is far too much of this in the world, even today...

Thank you for sharing this.
