Array ( [sid] => 102979 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Broad Stripes, Bright Stars [time] => 2005-08-08 05:04:04 [hometext] => this poem is for the men and women protecting you at this very moment. you live in the best country in the world (the land of the free and the home of the brave), and don't you forget it. [bodytext] =>
as I dress myself in such a way
that I'm hiding from our enemy,
you appear to be my brother

when the leaders converse
and decide to roll our bravery to the test
you appear to be my brother

so we step straight in line
(take a deep breath inside)
and question all of god's authority
(if indeed he's in the sky)
and we think of back at home
(where all our love is sewn)
and we look up to wipe the tears from our eyes
(the only fear we've ever known)
.....and enter the batllefield
.....where it could be our last ride

and in the haze of smoke
and bloodstained bullets,
you have become my brother

and we grasp our bleeding hands together
so proud we've made it here
but I know you'll soon be leaving
even so you'll still be near
a ghost who'll fly to way up high
and look Jesus in his own two eyes
my precious brother
my friend
you will never leave me to die...
