The Mighty Wolf lives in the Woodlands So Dear
Beautiful to see, beastly to encounter, never go near
He owns these woods and will protect them to the end
He walks proud and will attack to defend

You hear his howl late at night
He lets you know he’s there to fight
To protect what is his, so no human can overtake
This beautiful land he loves, but we forsake

He can be your friend if you are kind to his land
But don’t cross him, for he won’t understand
He loves his woods for he is in control
His children live here, it's his very soul

So walk proud Mighty Wolf and protect all you can
Keep safe this place, your children, and your land
Stand on your rock and let it be known all
That this is your place and this is your call

Throughout night and day you walk with no end
You hunt to eat you, you fight to defend
I sit here silently and watch you go by
Protecting the place you live and will die

Brilliant write, Cathy. I love the way you visualized his control over his domain. That is so rare these days. Most are shot and killed here because they take down the livestock which these farmers and ranchers depend on. But it takes every species for this world to survive.

Hugs,
Rita

It is fortunate that we noticed their numbers falling and they were put on the endangered species list before we killed them off. I think this is a marvelous tribute to a majestic creature.
