whenever i go home for lunch,
i would lie down on her bed
and stare at the ceiling.
the screen in the window tried to sift
the high noon sunlight.
the heat of the day would rise
from the concrete roads
and bounce off the cool cement walls.
i raised my skirt to my thighs.
i didn't care for one o'clock.
a walk back to school would only take ten minutes.
i tuned in to my favorite station.
the last on the dial.
my eyes were still glued to the ceiling
when i heard this sad moan.
it was a sweet cry for something.
i wasn't quite sure exactly what it was.
the singer seemed to mumble his words...
it was dreamy as the bass guitar
starts to catch up on this announcement
and attempt to drown the singer's voice.
as he chants, i counted the breaths we made.
the antique cabinet would shake.
the brightness of the day made the dust visible,
leading a stairway to the sun.
i may have forgotten to kick off my shoes.
**** *** ********* ** * ****** ******.
the pictures of saints
produced fear instead of guilt.
their faces wicked with every sensuality.
perhaps the singer was sinning.
or jinxing my virginity.
the forty year old man turned out to be a twenty something fella.
luring me to the couch
and yet leaving me in the distance.
caused own problems.
tardiness and whatnot.
