Who�s Really Being Punished Here?

I closed my eyes
And I felt you near
It was only for a moment-
I wiped a way a tear
I wanna forget yesterday
And look forward to tomorrow
It seems impossible-
I feel so empty and hollow
I pretend Im okay.
Even force a smile
Too much has happened
The pain will burn for awhile
It would make things easier
If everyone would leave me alone
And understand that this is something
I must deal with on my own
No one really knows
Whats happened or whats been said
His future is not in my hands
He made his own bed
But regardless of what happened
I cant control my heart
I cant wait to see him
And maybe have a fresh start
Only if hes willing to get help
And really wants to change his ways
Who gives anyone the right
To decide how he pays
Im the one whos hurting
Its me who cant sleep at night
Its not you whos taking the risk
So back offthis isnt your fight
What he did was wrong
But the judge is being a little rough
Hes already going to miss his daughters birth
Dont you think thats punishment enough?
So whos really being punished here
Is it him or me?
I think weve both suffered enough
Washington..Cant you just let us be?

Deeply emotive write. You expressed your feelings well. As for the subject, I have been there, and in my experience, it doesn't get better...Nor does the violence go away. While I can understand you wanting to forgive him, and give him another try...especially since there is a child involved. I only hope you know what you're doing, and if it happens again---leave! Or else the answer to your question/title will be: YOU.
