Array ( [sid] => 105576 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Never Be Betrayed [time] => 2005-09-12 20:42:28 [hometext] => I've always tried to be honest and loyal to people I consider friends.Throughout my life it has always seemed like so many of those people have not felt as strongly about our friendship as me [bodytext] => Moving against the circles that everyone belongs to
The fallback friend that you conjure to the world when purpose suits
My feelings too often smash against your all consuming focal point
Your narrow view does not widen to see me standing on the edge

You are not one, not a single friend but many
Into your webs too often have I fallen, become glued
Dessicated feelings of commitment and trust, sucked dry by the years
Replaced by wariness, lost confidence and doubt

Do I adapt to be the one who fascinates you with lies ?
Am I too open, no layers of personality for you to peel away ?
If I poison your mind, trade honesty for the insult of deception
Would the darker side ignite you, hpynotise you like a spell ?

If you cannot treat me mercifully then simply walk away
Second rate or second best is hardly a worthy prize
A soulmate not a cell mate I would always choose to be
Do not mock me with restriction, I do not wish to be caged

What then, start afresh, wipe clean the dirty slate ?
Turn my back on everyone in whose shadows I walk
Take a new tomorrow, all alone but safe
Coccooned in a world of only me, I can never be betrayed [comments] => 8 [counter] => 239 [topic] => 48 [informant] => puppy_dog_eyes [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 15 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

I Loved your style of writing, you write with such detailed and captivating expression.

I found your poem to be refreshing and spell-binding....

Wise thoughts, we all are afraid of being hurt.

A stellar art of writing this one!

As you know Steve, I know exactly where you come from with this. But, true friends will be there unconditionally, no matter what. If they cant be there for you when ever you need them to be there, they not true friends me thinks. There is this saying here. ~ In times of need you get to know yer true friends. ~
I'm pretty sure ya know what is meant with this...

Wonderfully written Steve.

Huggss,

Nats.

With this beautiful poem I can deeply emphasize Steve.
Evokes the myriads kinds of "friendship" and the diverse echelons of friendship bonds.

I love the line

"The fallback friend that you conjure to the world when purpose suits"

Ah there are so many "Fallback friends when it suits the purpose. The world if full of them.
And the disenchantment felt by those that had the audacity believe and seek for "More" and bettrer.
Great job
!
Blessings
Elizabeth

How sad that in todays world, we all have friends who just "get in touch" when it suits them or when they have nothing better to do with their time and we are just expected to be there at their beck and call, Yes I feel very much like "the fullback friend".

Well written, obviously written through some let down from a "friend".

Let us all take a leaf out of this poem and not treat those friends we hold dear as the fallback friend.

Thanks for reminding me at least that I need to keep in touch with my friends near or far away and not just when it suits.

Julie
