When I was but a child
I watched the sunrise in anticipation
Imagination running wild

In those days my spirit
Looked forward to sunrise
To pursue the dreams of life
Without limit or compromise

Not yet aware
Every sunrise ended in sunset
I was far too busy
To see that far yet

I could not see the erosion
The withering effect of time on dreams
Yet time relentlessly moved on
Oblivious to me it seems

Until came the realization
My life definitely has an end
The certainty of demise clear
I searched for a friend

Suddenly the sunrise
Seemed for others –not me
I was heading toward darkness
Still unable to see

Yet time moved me ever forward
Thru truths we all must face
Until I saw my life clearly
By God and His grace

I saw the sunset differently
Not a threat but a friend
I saw it in Gods’ peace
A new beginning-not an end

Now with Gods blessing
I view the sunset of my life
My soul is at peace
I feel no regret-no strife

Yes the coming of sunset
I no longer view in fear
But wait with bated breath
For God to appear
