Array ( [sid] => 108424 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => His Heart Has Ears [time] => 2005-10-25 09:50:06 [hometext] => ...as an educator of young children in today's schools, I am confronted with their woundedness, daily. It is difficult convincing children geometry or grammar is important when they are bleeding to death emotionally. [bodytext] => His Heart Has Ears

"You can't hear it?" he said with incredulity in his voice.
"You honestly can't hear it?"
He sighed deeply,
turned away,
brow furrowed,
breaths coming in short exhausted bursts.
A few paces distant,
twisting only his neck,
face angled slightly with the effort,
looking back,
eyes meeting…
"But, you see them, don't you?"
he asked softly,
pleadingly...
"Their faces…
their eyes…
you can see them,
right?"
Silence.

He was able to taste,
to smell,
to feel them;
bitter, pungent, excruciating sensations;
they were the children...
crippled children
drawn by the Piper's melody,
but denied entrance into the warm, soft, protective stone of the mountain,
the rock fusing as weary, twisted, desperately struggling limbs failed,
as infant soft eyes absorbed the cruelty of the moment,
as the tedious crush of isolation's reality permeated,
as hope's warm ember dissipated...
excluded from life's fullness,
the shriveling,
once again,
resumed.

What others could not hear,
he could not mute.
What others were unable to see,
was for him a vista of panoramic proportions...
a vivid reenactment of his youth;
bearded babies,
breasted infants,
bowed limbs,
bent backs,
thickly calloused soles,
swollen, gnarly fingers,
hoary hair protruding from the nostrils and ears lobes of babes,
children of every age,
distorted,
forsaken,
unseen;
their screaming,
unheard,
denied,
rationalized
with arguments of practicality and personal comfort;
"You can only do what you can do..."
...and,
really...
honestly...
what more can you do?
Limitations are limitations.
Love only stretches so far.
Truth is Truth.
Reality...
reality,
is...
reality is real.

But...
...but...
his heart has ears,
his soul has eyes,
his tears are a river.

This one felt like reading a bad novel.
