[hometext] => I'd tell you it's to make you wonder; but of course, it's not worth wondering.
[bodytext] => There's depth in the inches of water called a mere 'puddle' But it's the simplistic kind of depth that's not on purpose Where you hit the dirty pavement underneath with your eyes and decide, instead To study the not-at-all pretty colours flickering over the surface. The kind where I had to wonder why I stood there so long Grocery bag handles cutting painfully into my skin Yet I took the time, still staring, to distribute the weight And tried desperately to look beneath the surface again. I would have stood there all day, given the chance But for the one driver who realized he could cut through And sprayed the whole parking lot, it seemed, with that puddle That separated and recollected in twice as many places new. It was a simple thing, just another metaphor for ignorance Something with which to say that humanity doesn't mark the deep end However, the truth is that we notice danger more than anything And so we live in the dark, with no real need to comprehend.
