For this boy an adventure was about to be shared,
He was four years of age, all freckled and sweet,
And as cute as a button from his head to his feet.

We walked to the park, his new bike by his side,
A treasure he longed for and wanted to ride.
His face showed the excitement, his eyes sparkled so,
And I could tell that he wanted to just jump on and go.

Soon we arrived at the park with his bike,
I was sure this was something that both of us would like,
He climbed on in a hurry all ready to go,
But how to push the pedals he didn’t quite know.

I grabbed on to the back and helped him along,
A smile touched his face and filled my soul with a song,
His feet on the pedals, while I pushed they went ‘round,
But once I had stopped no momentum was found.

With encouragement I tried to teach him the way,
But sitting there motionless in one spot he would stay,
So I pushed him again and he laughed all the while,
And all of my efforts were worth that sweet smile.

To soon for his liking it was time to go home,
But he gave in and followed with a sigh and a groan.
He looked up at me then on that beautiful day,
Told me he loved me and liked when we play.
