But what they need,
Save your change, give 'em a crust of bread to eat.
Dust them off and get them to their feet
All they need is an opportunity
Take them off these streets
Dirty blankets that they spend their sleep
Holding a sign proclaiming their poverty.
On the pavement countin' sheep
In the snow or summer heat
Where they haven't bathed in weeks
We all take for granted sleeping under warm bed sheets
Now they're ignored by the rest of society
Shackled by temptation and gave into toxicity
Why do we blame them for their hard times?
They had dreams but couldn't see them through
Parents and children sometimes don't see eye to eye,
yet we're so blind and close minded that we can't find
a compromise instead of kicking them out in the middle of the night?
Had the rug swept from under their feet
Now their climbing to get back up to their knees
Struggling with vulnerabilities
And prone to contageous diseases
But who's gonna pay for their vaccines?
Isn't this a beautiful country?
Where anyone and anything can be forgotten about with money
With greed, this buys and manipulates every policy
No politician takes poverty seriously until someone dies in the streets.
But it's swept under the rug when the hype dies down...because
their the nobodies.
No child says they wanna be homeless when they grow up
...who's next to join the nobodies?
How can we sever this elaborate scheme?
You might think a little differently
If the odds were stacked against you and you were the one standing on your knees.
But...who'll be the last to join the nobodies?
