Spinifex and sand
This is my homeland
Australia
Where everyone lends a helping hand.
Mate, here life is grand.

Deserts that stretch far as the eye can see.
Pristine beaches hugged by a clear blue sea.
Australia
With rainforests where one can find serenity.
This is the best place in the world to me.

With paddocks of golden wheat
Rippling gently in the heat
Australia
There is plenty of food for all to eat
Here, life is sweet.

Wild flowers of every colour and hue,
Bloom in springtime, just for you.
Australia
It’s dinky-di true blue
Through and through.

With kangaroos bounding along in the outback
There’s more to be seen off this beaten track
Australia
For nothing do we lack
Visit once and you’ll come back.

* I wrote this last year as we were travelling across Australia by train.
Australia is a great place to live and an even better place to holiday in.
I'm still experimenting with rhythm and rhyme so tell me what you think.

Hey OZC,

Great poem, perfect day to post it. Rhyme and metre is fine - I especially liked how you kept the same rhyming quartet within the stanzas but changed it between them. I'm heading off the Darling Harbour now for some celebrations.

Go Aussie!!

Spike
