is deep

in its darkness.

The firelight shines

just as brightly as it did,

when you were here.

Yet, nothing is the same,

and never will be again.

I roll and toss,

giving up,

I punch the pillow

and fight back

the angry, lonely tears.

I swear I live with

the ghost of you.

I really should

pack away those images

of you,

of us,

of then.

How could I

have not seen

the obvious?

I was blinded with

the love of you.

And I thought

you would be

the one to

change my fear,

my mistrust

and my sadness.

I get up, pull on my robe

and light a cigarette.

I pace and fuss with

small bits and pieces of you.

Pieces I thought made whole,

by the two of us being together.

And I wonder,

where are you at this

very moment?

I hear your voice

in the sighing of

the wind,

and it is abrasive

on this already torn heart.

A storm of rage

overtakes me,

I throw your framed face

against the stones

of the fireplace

we once loved

and it shatters

just like my heart.

And I sob silently,

the pain to great

to make sound.

And I feel as if

I'll never be whole

again.

I love you, I hate you!

How can I forgive

when I believed

in you so much?

How could you

have done this

to me?

I thought you

were the strong one,

the one who could

resist the temptation

of another.

But I was wrong.

And now, I am the one....

Paying the price

of long nights spent alone.

I enjoy this style. You had some great lines. Though the spacing hurt. It must of been a long relationship. Perhaps that is the point.

Well, I really liked this piece....and I figured the way you set it up....was to make it feel long. Long suffering your enduring. Times will get better....I know that sucks hearing it. But it is so very true. Sorry, you're dealing with this pain. You are expressing it well in your write. Thank you for sharing. I wish you peace, Laura
