The worst of days, the worst of times
As you lay your Mother to rest
The pain of loss, stabs of regret
Pondering 'Did you really do your best'
Fuming boiling anger, bottled up inside
She said she would always be here - She lied
Memories fogged by time, appear reborn anew
Vivid thoughts, catch emotions true

The feel of her breath as she whispered and passed a hanky for your nose
The hug and smile of pride, as to some challenge you rose
Warm pyjamas as you sprang from the bath
Suddenly a yearning, just to hear her laugh
The times she gave you earache, the times she gave you none
Sandy sandwiches on the beach, laying in the sun
She wiped your bum and mopped your brow
All the things you do daily that she showed you how
That tiny little hand, that made you feel so safe
But now you are abandoned, an orphaned little waif
Of corse its to be expected, death comes, it's true
Somehow we all manage to think, 'It'll never happen to you'
Although the cord was cut, the cord was cut at birth
The connection was always constant,
while her soul was on this earth

No longer connected - mournful and sad
But so very thankful for the Mother you had.

In memory of Maggie

Here's tae us, Wha's like us, Damn few, an' thier aw deed
(old scottish toast)

A beautiful and sad tribute to the love one feels for one's mother and the loss we experience after the realization that she is gone. I like the reference to the "cord" and how we stay connected with our Mum, long after we are born. Nice write!
