Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji (1872-1933).

Contributed by faiton on Sunday, 30th April 2006 @ 03:22:38 PM in AEST
Topic: Tributes

To Ranjitsinhji lets raise our hat,
Theres been none like him since.
I wish that I had seen him bat.

Its with regret and saddened heart that
Ive only seen him in aging prints.
To Ranjitsinhji lets raise our hat.

A new breed of cricketer he begat
Playing for Sussex in three stints.
I wish that I had seen him bat.

On pitches sticky, grassy, flat,
Today they bat from his footprints.
To Ranjitsinhji lets raise our hat.

He played his last game half-blind and fat
A sad finale making friends wince.
I wish that I had seen him bat.

On an Indian throne he sat,
An English batsman, an Indian prince.
To Ranjitsinhji lets raise our hat.
I wish that I had seen him bat.

Although I am not familiar with the man in your poem, I enjoyed it very much!
