They reveal the scars upon your face
The tears roll down your cheeks
And rest upon your chin
The price you've paid is the marks you've earned
They're starting to sneak past your smiles
So still you stand upon the pavement
Looking past the view to the world below
Wondering if your solitude against it has been worth it
Resisting the urge to drop to your knees
Your hands stretched out
Hoping to catch some sort of approval
Some kind of sign
Today you've learned to stand your ground
To recieve your sign you need only to open your eyes

A single solitary rose
Standing poignant against a clouded background
Resisting all urges to bend in the wind
Reaching ever deeply into the rich soil
Hoping to catch just one drop of moisture
Clutching beauty in it's grasp
The skies above begin to haze and turn pink
The silencing night starts to appear
The culdesac below darkens
The leaves reach higher into the last glimpses of sunlight
Those last few rays burn so deep
Straight through to the inner core
Providing a warmth like no other
Tempting the soul into desires
Finally the last bit of light turns to vapors
Nothing left in the blackness but odors
Sense left to the mind now instead of the skin
And as the first evening star peeks it's brightness through the clouds,
The rose still stands there reaching
Closing it's petals once again
As the coolness of night overcomes it
Standing it's ground, holding it's beauty
Allowing only peace and serenity in

Your tears do not fall in vain
For each tear that falls feeds into the earth
And with that nourishment,
A rose is born....
