Alone to care for her brood
Had to work two jobs
To supply shelter and food

The oldest a boy of seventeen
In the gang scene refuge found
Until one day a drive by shooting
Left him bleeding on the ground

His mother waiting tables
Was told to the hospital go
Never did she once think
She would sustain such a blow

Holding her son in her arms
She just broke down and cried
A mother should not
Have to hold her child as he died

Sad the reality of a family
Drained of happiness
Because some thugs
Find life to be useless

She did not ask
To be deserted by her man
And her only thought
Was surviving as she can

Shari this is so touching my heart bleeds for these mothers who have lost a child at such a cost. Nicely done.

Powerfully gripping in the images painted masterfully in your words. So many times they condemn the "parents" for the thuggery of gang members, but deserted with six kids, working two jobs with a dead child in her arms kinda puts such condemnation in its place. In this case, I do condemn the sperm donor. Well done!
