I Knew Her When

I Knew Her When
~
I never wanted to hold your hand,
I never wanted to be that man.
Youre a big girl now, whos on her own,
Able to make decisions from what youve shown.
You dont need someone holding you down,
You dont need that negative energy hanging around.
~
I never wanted to be the one,
I never wanted to control the fun.
Youre ready to stand in front of the line,
And leave the nay-Sayers far behind.
You rose to the top on your own,
Look now at how youve grown.
~
I never wanted to share the light,
Of an emerging force taking flight.
Youve proved you had what it takes,
To slow you down would be a mistake.
Im more than content to stand back in line,
And watch from a distance, for its your time.
~
I never wanted to hold your hand,
You dont need me to make a stand.
Youre a force of one, solid as a rock,
You have action behind your talk.
Im proud to say, I knew her when,
So happy to watch her win.
