Leaves twirling on the ground
On a crisp autumn’s day
A light breeze blowing
As in bed you lay

Fast asleep in dreamland
I sit beside your bed
Wishing I knew the dreams
Running through your head

Is it a replay
Of days gone by
Hopes for tomorrow
Imagining you can fly

Through an open window
The breeze catches my hair
My eyes well with tears
This so isn’t fair

I peer out the window
And think of the day
That’s winding to its end
I pray to the Lord
For another
That together we can spend

Days like today
May not last
They may become memories
That stay in our past

Oh,
What I wouldn’t give
For a million more days
Like the one we just had
To watch you play

Jumping in piles of leaves
Throwing them in the air
Your curls bouncing around you
As you laugh free from care

Seeing the light twinkle in your eyes
As you run across the yard
Right into my arms
Like a picture off a postcard

My most treasured jewel
My four-year-old little girl
My life
My Heart
To me
You are the world

During summer we go to the beach
We have picnics
Just us two
I watch you play in the water
And build sandcastles with you

During winter we go sledding
Together we sit quietly
Watching snowflakes fall
We make dozens of snow angels
And snowmen 5 feet tall

During spring we go to the meadow
Picking wild flowers
We put on rain boots
And jump in puddles
Left from springtime showers

But it’s the fall
That you like best
For you
This season
Has always been above the rest

You love having leave fights
Being buried in a pile
It’s during autumn days
You wear the biggest smile

Like the smile you had this evening
When you said goodnight
As I pulled up your covers
Tucking you in tight

A goodnight kiss
“I love you’s” we share
As I give you
Your beloved teddy bear

I go back outside
And kneel on the ground
Alone
So you don’t see
I quietly break down

I felt my heart shatter
When the doctor told me
That MY
Little girl had cancer
How could that be

If I lose you
I don’t know what I’ll do
So that leaves one option
To see this through

So now I’m in your room
Fighting these tears
The thought of losing you
Is my greatest fear

You share my yesterdays
You have all of my todays
You hold all my tomorrows
What more can I say

Without you
My summers
Would be lonely and cold
Going to the beach would be empty
Without your little hand to hold

My winters would be long
Indoors
My coat would be warn
Only way to get by
Without your hugs to keep me warm

In spring your flowers wouldn’t be
Atop the fireplace
And in every puddle I’d see
Your sweet smiling face

But fall would be the hardest
The others wouldn’t compare
It’s your favorite season
It’d feel wrong without you there

So I kneel by your bed
And I pray with all my heart
That this illness you have
Doesn’t tear us apart

“Dear Lord I hope you hear my prayer
Please don’t take my baby
She’s my heart
And my soul
She’s everything to me

But if you must call her home
To Heaven above
Don’t let her suffer any pain
And surround her with your love

Tell her everyday I miss her
That I can’t wait to see her again
Tell her daily
I love her
This I pray to you
Amen”

Every night for a year
I said that same prayer
As I sat by your bed
Running my fingers
Through your curly hair

Now I walk to this glossed stone
Every single day
For here
Beneath it
Is where you lay

I sit here for hours
Just talking with you
About all the things
Together we use to do

On the ground again
Are leaves of reds and golds
Times like these are hard
Without you to hold

I sit here by your stone
Remembering our time together
I keep you with me always
In my heart forever

The light twinkling in your eyes
The breeze blowing through your hair
Your reason for loving the fall
“Mommy
I feel magic in the air!”

Fall is when you’d wear
The biggest smile on your face
So I keep a bowl of colored leaves
Next to your picture
Atop the fireplace

I love this season and autumn leaves
Just as much as you do
I bet it looks breath taking
From your Heaven-eye-view

Wow. You had me in tears by the end of this poem. You used imagery very vividly. While sometimes your rhymes felt a bit forced, overall this was a very moving poem and if it was autobiographical, I am sorry for your loss.
